Robert Pattinson is limp, doesnt have a publicist

Summit's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" Cast Tour

The publicity tour for New Moon is full speed ahead, so we can look forward to more interviews coming out with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. And if the previous interviews, I have some predictions: Sparkles will continue to give some of the weakest, most grating self-deprecating remarks ever (seriously, this is one actor who needs more of an ego), Kristen Stewart will continue to tell people to “f-ck off”, and Taylor Lautner will continue to be my jailbait fantasy.

Today we’ve got some fun Sparkles interviews. Did I say “fun”? I meant “I’m going to kill Sparkles if he’s totally limp in one more interview”. Grow a set, Sparkles! First up – Sparkles spoke to Times Online (story via OK!), and he talking about how he can’t be in LA because “the paparazzi follow me all night.” He also says he “just wanted to make an American film” and be good in it. And then he starts in about how he’s not good, and all of his self-deprecating stuff: “It worries me, because the whole Twilight thing keeps getting bigger and bigger, and now it’s so big that even my own ego can’t cope with it. A certain amount of success you can mentally deal with, but there’s a point where you think, ‘Jesus Christ, what is this? I’m not that great!’” Sparkles worried that Edward would need to be “an alpha-male hero type” but that “when they cast Kristen Stewart, she’s not really like that, so I realised there was a different way to play Edward, to show his vulnerability.” Translation: Kristen is a million times more ballsy than Sparkles, and that’s the way he likes it. Next up, this People Magazine piece:

Robert Pattinson may be an international heartthrob, but when it comes to his own romantic exploits, the Twilight star admits he can be a bit wimpy. “I can’t think of a single romantic thing that I’ve ever done,” Pattinson said while promoting the latest installment of the vampire series, New Moon, in Los Angeles Nov. 6.

“I would never serenade someone to be romantic – you have to have so much balls to do that. I put a flower in someone’s locker when I was 15 years old, this girl called Maria. She thought that it was someone else and the other guy claimed it as well, which is great.”

Despite his claims, Pattinson, 23, says he is a big believer in onscreen romance and balks at the common notion that it’s for ladies only. “It’s like saying guys can’t appreciate romance,” he says. “I’ve watched Titanic and I didn’t think, ‘Oh, this is a girl’s film.'” Similarly, he says, “I felt like the storyline in New Moon is very heartbreaking and true. I didn’t think I was doing something just for the sake of romance.”

That said, are there any real similarities between Pattinson – rumored to be dating costar Kristin Stewart – and his tortured alter ego, Edward?

“I get quite obsessive about things, and possessive as well,” says the star. “I have very, very specific ideas about how I want to do my work and how I want to be perceived, to the point of ridiculousness sometimes.”

“I don’t listen to anyone else,” he says. “That’s why I don’t have a publicist – I can’t stand it if someone’s trying to tell me to do something which might be a mistake.”

FYI, Sparkles: you need a publicist. Normally, I would at least give a publicist-less celebrity some props for not playing the game, but there comes a point when not having a publicist is simply dumb. Angelina Jolie reached that point several years ago – she desperately needs a publicist to control a lot of the crap that comes her way. And Sparkles needs a publicist so someone will tell him not to talk this way in interview after interview. It’s like, alright already. We get it. You’re charming and self-effacing and special and tender and vulnerable. Now grow a set.
